Confrontational Tone, Responsive Feel

If you like the way a smaller tube amplifier breaks up when it's pushed hard, then you'll love the 50-watt PRS Archon guitar amplifier head. The 50-watt Archon gives you all of the sonic fury of the 100-watt version, which delivers clear, sparkling cleans and aggressive, overdriven bite. When pushed hard, the 50-watt Archon's clean channel produces a fantastic driven clean tone. The 50-watt Archon's lead channel will shatter the windows and shake the walls with mountains of full, lush distortion. Whether you're chiming or chugging, the PRS Archon 50-watt tube amp delivers the goods!

PRS Archon 50-watt Tube Amplifier Head at a Glance:
  • Aggressive modern tone with a classic playing response
  • Two channels of sonic mayhem
  • Professional features and high-class tone
Aggressive modern tone with a classic playing response

Following in the success of the 100-watt Archon, this 50-watt version is designed to give you the same modern tone but with the playing feel of a low-powered amp. You'll both hear and feel the Archon breathe and loosen up a bit when you really dig into your guitar. And when you switch to 25-watt mode you can get those same cranked-amp tones at lower volumes. Basically, this is the Archon you want if you're after high-gain tone with the responsive feel of a low-wattage amplifier.

Two channels of sonic mayhem

The amp gurus at PRS decided it was time for an amp that excels at the heavier side of music. From drop-tuned chugging to over-the-top shred solos, the 50-watt Archon delivers the heavy sounds you need with extreme clarity. Every note of every chord is clear and defined - no matter how heavy your distortion. The clean channel goes from warm jazz tones to pristine clean. Guitarists at Sweetwater agree that amps rarely encompass both sides of the spectrum this well. And if you cut the power down to 25 watts, you get the same killer tone at volumes more appropriate for smaller venues or recording.

Professional features and high-class tone

The PRS Archon 50-watt tube amplifier is easy to integrate into virtually any guitar rig. You've got a switchable 4-/8-/16-ohm speaker output, so you can easily connect whatever type of speaker cabinet you prefer. And just like every PRS amp, the Archon has easy-access bias points on the back panel for easier tube maintenance.

PRS Archon 50-watt Tube Amplifier Head Features:
  • Modern 2-channel metal amplifier with features designed for the professional gigging guitarist
  • All-tube design with incredibly wide tonal range from amazing cleans to roaring distortion
  • Master volume for each channel really lets you fine-tune your tonal combinations
  • Amazingly responsive and dynamic, with no loss of high frequencies when you turn down your guitar's volume
  • Switchable 25- or 50-watt operation lets you achieve cranked-amp tone at lower volume levels
  • 12AX7 preamp tubes and 6L6 power tubes

If you need any modern tone or even a modded 80's marshall type drive, this handles it. The dirty channel cleans up very very well and retains the highs, so think van halen hot for teacher, set neck pickup vol. low to switch to that clean and then flip to bridge pickup and your roaring again. Thats how versatile the dirty channel is and it isn't mud, it's clean and clear just like the clean channel. Clean channel is super clean and really well voiced. The eq is highly responsive and perfectly made to allow you to get the extremes of any kinda tone. Depth knob really works and is perfect to add the chunk but without the mud.fx loop is picky. Doesn't seem to like my tc pedals very much. Also have to be aware of pedal location, as any AC current can add noise into the cables that are connected to the fx loop, so my pedal power has had to be moved. Small price to pay honestly because the fx loop sounds great and the effects really shine. So despite a little learning curve on this amps fx loop, I'm still happy. Being able to leave the effects on and just footswitch it in means less dancing for me. This is possibly the best/versatile high gain head out there.

completely satisfied with the tone this amp produces... have played through a ton of different heads and really researched this time to make sure I got what I wanted.... with this head I got even more.. super clean head with perfect modern saturation and a very flexible eq on both channels.... AMAZING amp for the price.... and Sweetwater was very timely about the whole process. I would recommend this company and this product to anyone interested!

PRS Archon 50 Is A Beast

The Archon 50 is a beast of an amp. Running with the 6L6's, it has a very tight, focused gain channel that hits hard! The clean channel is great, very articulate and pristine. It loves pedals and really brings out the different tonal qualities between my SD-1, Tube Screamer and Guvnor pedals. A keeper for sure!!
