Subtle and Solo to Soaring and 60-string Sonics
Spitfire Audio’s dedication to cinema-grade symphonic tools has led to multiple inspiring and innovative compositional approaches, balancing multitudes of creative applications with the distinct interfacing needs of a solo composer and producer. Aperture Strings is an orchestral library that utilizes a groundbreaking approach to simultaneously throttling dynamics, expression, and sonic scope through a singular architectonic framework: the aperture. Studio producers at Sweetwater are enamored by the elegance of this multifaceted approach, wherein the sonic aperture’s opening allows you to seamlessly navigate four levels of multidimensional performance, from a 5-piece ensemble to the full force of a 60-piece symphonic string section. Parameters like Dynamics, Release, Expression, and Reverb can be further refined within the Aperture level of each patch, with additional controls available for round-robin and legato playing, as well as more than 20 distinct articulations. Moreover, Spitfire Audio captured these performances in excruciating detail at the famed Lyndhurst Hall of London’s AIR Studios, with world-class performers, ensuring truly cinema-grade sonics. In sum, Aperture Strings merges the totality of performance intensity and conductor control into a single, electrifying string section that’s as formidable in film or TV scores as with video games, music, and sound design.

Four layers of Aperture architecture
A standard method for emphasizing performances is to stack the number of voices in a patch. Still, Spitfire Audio’s distinctive Aperture architecture operates with an impressive degree of nuance and detail. Independent of your patch’s working polyphony or the techniques and articulations used for your passage, each stage represents a combination of player count, magnitude, and dynamics, simultaneously attenuated. Pinhole Ensemble is the appropriately titled first layer, with five players performing at a delicate pianississimo before escalating to a mezzo-piano performance of five players with Solo Strings. At the third level, Chamber Strings, the player count increases to 16 performers at a mezzo-forte level. Finally, at its widest opening, the fourth level — Symphonic Strings — deploys the full firepower of all 60 members, playing at a fortissimo volume in groupings of eight, 10, 12, 14, and 16 performers.
