Say you find a sound in the pedal you need to share with the world...because that will happen. Upload it straight to your computer with the USB out and add it to TC's TonePrint Library. That's where you'll find hundreds of presets, many by some of the biggest names in guitar, to share and download right into your very own X4. And it couldn't be any easier to do. Download the preset with your iPhone and send it wirelessly through Beam technology straight to your pedal. Look Ma, no cables! The possibilities are endless with the Alter Ego X4.

A ton of features while being easy to use

TC should write a book on how to cram so many useful features into such an easy-to-use pedal. Everything from tap tempo and three locations for presets, to MIDI compatibility, inputs for an expression pedal, USB outs, selectable true bypass or buffer, and so much more. There truly is very little within the realm of vintage delay that you can't accomplish with the Alter Ego X4. Need to tap in a dotted eighth pattern on a gig, but maybe you're not a great tap dancer? Not a problem at all. The X4 even offers TC's switch for subdivided rhythms. Just select the one you want and tap out quarter notes. Couldn't be easier!

Becoming more of my 'go to' pedal.

Delay is an integral part of my sound - live. I just swapped out a Seymore Duncan Deja Vu with original Boss CE-2 in the mod loop but I started using this on a 'B' board and kept thinking - this sounds really great - gives me 3 presets and is simple to dial up sounds and can go from digital to analog tones with a lot of variety in between. I have been a big user of the toneprint feature starting with the HOF and even discovered a very useable Jerry McPhereson TP with the fantastic autotap feature which senses your tempo. So now my 'A' board has the H9 (gives me dual delay option) into HOF into AEX4 into Mr. Black Eterna. Honestly, even though the TC unit does not really have dual delay option I find in a live situation the second delay is usually washed out anyway. For studio work I would favor my other delays for the final cut but live this is great. Only real gripe is although Midi integration is there it is very basic and doesn't allow for bypass. When I get a loop/switcher option this will not be an issue. Having a mod conrrol would be nice but for me I often use toneprint anyway or program my own. The over the top presets actually work in some contexts (slide for instance).

Great Digital Pedal/Analog Emulator

This pedal by TC Electronic is really fantastic. It has a lot to offer as an analog emulator, and has an incredible tape echo and old analog pedal sounds. With the addition of a tap tempo, a looper, and TC Electronic's tone print editor and you've really got a real work horse winner. My only issue with it is that is only is a digital simulation of the vintage delays, and there is no self oscillation.

Solid Unit

Let me start off by saying this pedal sounds fantastic. The MIDI and True Bypass/Buffer options were a huge part of me buying this pedal. Here are the downsides: 1. No Modulation or Parameter controls - Most presets are entirely overbearing 2. Tone Print stuff is awesome and I was very excited to use it, however, none of the vintage units on the AEX4 are even accessible. 3. This pedal really should be able to save more presets than 3, adding banks would've made this so much better Overall this is a solid petal with a lot of potential. TC should really ditch this and do another version with parameter controls and banks though. (Than price would be 100% justifiable)
