Semi-acoustic body with flame maple top, back, and sides provides a bright and naturally expressive tone

There's no substitute for the mellow and naturally resonant sound of an electric guitar with a semi-acoustic body. Ibanez built their AS153 semi-hollowbody guitar to capture the jangle and bite of a classic semi-hollowbody, which is why they built it with a flame maple body. Whether you're playing rockabilly, blues, or any number of modern styles, you're going to love the character the AS153 semi-hollowbody guitar brings to your music.

Super 58 Custom humbucking pickups capture electric sound and acoustic resonance, without 60-cycle hum

Early hollowbody and semi-hollowbody electric guitars had wonderfully expressive tone that came with serious hum issues. That's why Ibanez and other guitar makers quickly developed special humbuckers, such as the Super 58 Custom pickups. These special humbuckers preserve your AS153 semi-hollowbody guitar's bite, but ditch the 60Hz hum and other noise. What's more, ACH humbuckers give the AS153 a unique sonic character that you're sure to have fun with.

Slim mahogany neck and bound ebony fingerboard give you smooth feel and comfortable action

The neck of any guitar has a lot to do with how well it plays, which is why Ibanez selected one of their smoothest and most comfortable necks for the Artcore AS153 semi-hollowbody guitar. Not only will your hand love the slim carve of this mahogany neck, but your fingers will appreciate the beautifully bound ebony fingerboard.

Ibanez AS153 Semi-hollowbody Electric Guitar Features:
  • A versatile semi-hollow electric guitar
  • Perfect for a wide range of musical styles and playing techniques
  • Semi-hollow flame maple body with sustain block for acoustic resonance and naturally bright tone
  • Dual Super 58 Custom humbucking pickups capture sweet electric tone and acoustic resonance with no hum
  • Comfortably slim mahogany neck is easy to play and gives you convenient access to the upper frets
  • Bound ebony fretboard feels smooth and looks amazing
The Ibanez Artcore AS153 semi-hollowbody sounds great and is tons of fun to play!

Ibanez ArtStar 153 Semi-Hollow Body

The Ibanez ArtStar 153 is an amazingly good-looking, solid, great-sounding semi-hollow body guitar. Bridge, middle, and neck positions for the Super 58 pickups are clean and varied for a wonderful selection of tones between each. I think well suited for any style. That said, what I am finding I enjoy most about the 153 is its feel when I am playing. The neck is fast and yet shaped for easy picking. The body seems to have been custom tailored to me. Accurate gold tuners, bridge and pickup plates—-this guitar is a beautiful instrument with a very durable finish. The sunburst design is blended front and back far more pleasing to the eye, I think, than any other brand. Photos online do not do this guitar justice. Considering the other electric guitars I own, this baby is making them feel ignored and a bit jealous. I have a feeling this model will either jump in price or disappear into a more expensive and certainly unnecessary upgrade.

Better In Person!

I had never seen this guitar in person. I have no large music stores near me at all. I read the reviews and looked at the pictures in the Sweetwater gallery. I play all styles of music with the exception of heavy metal; with emphasis on jazz, blues, rock and pop. My wife convinced me to go ahead and order it. The guitar is absolutely beautiful to look at, and sounds beautiful too; even straight through my PA. The workmanship is great. The guitar feels good. I ordered a new amp to go with it but it won't be here until next week. Then I'll be able to get all the tones I can imagine. Thanks to Chris Kress for his stellar (as always) customer service. Sweetwater has the best selection and customer service that I have ever seen.
Music background: Self taught professional. Play solo, and duo with my wife.

WELL TO DO GUITAR

THIS IS A WELL MADE GUITAR,IT HAS ALL THINGS TO MAKE IT GREAT.IT IS A ES 335 MADE BY IBANEZ.I LIKE PLAYING IT AND DO SO MOST EVERY DAY.I HAVE BEEN USING MY BURGARA V22 AMP WITH MY BOSS TREMOLO, WOW WHAT A SOUND.THE EBONY FRET BOARD AND BONE NUT CAN'T BEAT.REMEMBER ONE IMPORTANT THING THE BONE NUT REALLY WORKS WELL ON OPEN CORDS AND OPEN NOTES.I THINK A ZERO FRET WOULD BE A BETTER IDEA IF BUILDING ANOTHER AS153 IN THE NEAR FUTURE...
Music background: MOSTLY SELF TAUGHT .

BELIEVER

I recently purchased the AS153 with a bit of reservation, okay, more than a bit. I own several high end semi-hollow bodies and am accustom to a particular feel, tone an workmanship that comes with them. I had read reviews, seen videos but had not actually had an opportunity to play this particular guitar. So with a roll of the dice I doubled down!!!!! I placed the order through my Sweetwater agent and 3 days later it arrived. Due to the cold weather I delayed opening the box for the 7 longest hours of my life. Upon opening the case I was simply floored am amazed by the aesthetics of it and the workmanship. Mother of pearl/abalone blocks, ebony fretboard and the flame maple was something you would expect to find on a much more expensive guitar. The setup was okay needed a little action adjustment, the neck felt unbelievable. Meaty, but quick. I plugged into a Marshall Bluebreaker an was amazed of what it did. Changed to a Vox AC15c2 flip'n insane. This was good right, no, better. I knew the purchase was golden when my wife, who may I add could really care less about how a guitar sounds validated the purchase. She came into my home studio after hearing me play and said I quote "which guitar is that (oh forgot to mention I didn't clear the purchase through her) it sounds very warm and gritty all at the same time" SOLD!!! Ibanez has really up'd there game. For the price point u get WAY more guitar than u will expect.. Roll some dice.
Music background: Blues, Southern Rock and Gospel

VERY NICE!

Beautiful guitar, nice set up, frets are very nice. Action might not be low enough for some but are fine for me and easy enough to adjust. Fit and finish best I've seen for anywhere near this price.
