Four distinct dynamic modules
Sculpt’s Upwards compressor increases the gain of quieter parts of your mix without affecting peaks or transients, making it ideal for bringing out subtle instrumentals or background vocals. The Downwards compressor functions as a traditional compressor, delivering exceptional clarity, especially when combined with Sculpt’s Auto Gain algorithm. Both compressors include EQ controls with low shelf, parametric, high shelf, and tilt options, which can be applied to either the mid or side chain for precise shaping of your sound. The Tone module lets you emphasize or suppress specific frequency areas by blending an adjustable dynamic processor with an Emphasis EQ—perfect for boosting low synths or bass, or taming harsh hi-hats. Sculpt’s fourth dynamic module, Transient, helps smooth and soften peaks that risk clipping your mix, such as an overly sharp snare. Each module features its own bypass button, a context bar with additional parameters, a preset menu, and range controls, giving you full flexibility to sculpt the exact sonic character you want.
Distortion-free adjustments and adaptive auto gain
A common challenge with compression and other dynamics processors is that even level-matched signals can sound noticeably different from the input, causing loudness bias. With Sculpt, you can side-chain all four dynamic modules without worrying about distortion, thanks to its Envelope Detection Algorithm. This technology creates more natural, responsive sound by mimicking how humans perceive loudness and frequency.
Sweetwater engineers have found that this algorithm works seamlessly with Sculpt’s Advanced Adaptive Auto Gain, automatically applying precise makeup gain as you adjust parameters for incredibly transparent results. Sculpt’s presets also leverage these algorithms, letting you hear them exactly as intended, with automatic adjustments that you can compare using the four preset audition slots.
