Welcome to High-gain Paradise
Built in collaboration with Billie Joe Armstrong, the Marshall 1959BJA Artist Signature amp puts the driving, raw tones of Green Day's breakout album, Dookie, at your command. This handwired, 100-watt tube amplifier head takes its inspiration from the original “Dookie Mod” Marshall Billie used to record the album in 1993, featuring an enhanced low-midrange bite, a customized tone stack, and cascading gain channels to deliver a dirtier sound than a stock Super Lead. Moreover, the 1959BJA boasts dedicated Gain and Master Volume controls, making it easier to access the amp's sweet tube saturation and aggressive, crunchy attitude. Apart from these mods, the 1959BJA’s foundation is all classic Marshall Super Lead, from the Plexi control panel to the straightforward tone-shaping controls. Sealed with Dookie-inspired trim and a baby-blue wrap that pays homage to Billie’s first guitar, the Marshall 1959BJA Artist Signature 100-watt amp head encapsulates both Billie’s rebellious attitude and the sound that defined an era.

A modern tribute to the original "Dookie Mod" 1959SLP
Released in 1994 as the band’s major-label debut, Dookie transformed Green Day from underground punk-rock upstarts to a household name, with the album now having sold over 28 million copies and achieved double-Diamond certification. From the rapid-fire palm-muted intro of “Basket Case” to the driving power chords of “When I Come Around,” Billie Joe Armstrong’s guitar playing and tone on Dookie set the stage for generations of punk and pop-punk guitarists to follow. Billie's amp of choice during the album’s recording? A heavily modified Marshall 1959 dubbed "Pete."
The Marshall 1959BJA pays tribute to that inimitable amplifier, delivering the stage-shaking crunch that made the Plexi a legend but with higher gain, enhanced body, and a signature low-midrange bite. What’s more, Billie’s Marshall makes it easy to achieve sweet saturation at living room-appropriate levels with the addition of a Master Volume control and a dedicated Gain knob, features you certainly won’t find on any traditional Marshall 1959.

Trim inspired by Billie's first guitar
Far from the understated black Tolex wrap of a traditional Marshall, Billie Joe Armstrong’s signature 1959BJA amp comes wrapped in a serene baby-blue covering. This finish pays tribute to Billie’s first guitar, “Blue,” further complemented by brass and silver panel details and a custom Dookie badge with Billy’s signature. It all adds up to a collector-worthy amp that’s distinct in both style and sound.
Traditional handwired construction
When Marshall’s first 100-watt 1959 models were launched in 1965, amplifiers were still built the old-fashioned way — with a hot soldering iron and a significant degree of skill on the operator’s end. And while even the most dedicated of Sweetwater's vintage gurus must admit that modern PCB designs have revolutionized the art of amplification, this Marshall 1959BJA Artist Signature amp, featuring a traditional handwired circuit, pays tribute to the tube heads that built the Marshall name. From the wires on the turret board to the resistors, pots, and capacitors, every element of this amp is installed by skilled human hands, just as it would have been done on the amplifiers originally built so many decades ago.
