Premium-quality mixer with proven components

The Mackie 1202VLZ4 is, first and foremost, a Mackie mixer. It houses four of Mackie's premium-quality Onyx mic preamps for natural, transparent sound, and four stereo channels. Its mic/line channels are equipped with a 3-band EQ. Signal routing is easy and flexible. On top of all that, the Mackie 1202VLZ4 is built Mackie-tough - trust this mixer to perform even in the most harrowing situations.

Sealed rotary controls ensure long-term reliability

Sure, the Mackie 1202VLZ4 mixer will shrug off bumps, drops, and outright abuse, but what about spills or rain? Thankfully, the 1202VLZ4 boasts sealed rotary controls that resist grime, dust, and anything else that may spill onto your mixer. We're not saying it's fully waterproof, but it's an extra level of protection you'll eventually be very glad you have when you're running live sound in a hectic environment.

Incredible sound quality

VLZ stands for "very low noise", and that's just part of the appeal of the Mackie 1202VLZ4 mixer. In all you've got a 128.5dB dynamic range, making it easy to achieve full, punchy mixes. The Onyx mic preamps have a 60dB gain range, so you can get the best out of virtually any microphone. And because the 1202VLZ4's line inputs handle +22 dBu signal levels, you can connect high-output sound sources without worrying about distorting your inputs.

Mackie 1202VLZ4 12-channel Mixer Features:
  • Amazingly rugged analog mixer with four microphone preamplifiers and four stereo channels
  • Onyx mic preamps offer up to 60dB of gain for great performance with any mic
  • Ultra-low-noise performance gives you clean, clear sound
  • High-resolution stereo meters give you fast, easy visual indication of your signal levels
  • Sealed rotary controls resist dust and grime

It's hard to beat the sound and performance of the Mackie 1202VLZ4!

Mackie attack

This is not my first Mackie product and I can say I am pleased with this one as well. Quality from top to bottom.Great value for the price and exceptional service from Sweetwater. Cant ask for more than that.

Project Studio Monster

I bought this mixer as a swiss army knife: recording, mixing, summing, etc. I have it running through my patch bay as a 4-bus output which is normalled to the rear inputs of my RME FF 800. Recording: it's so simple. Cables into the top, set gain and go. I route 2 channels through the L&R bus with the panner, and route the other 2 through the aux sends. I can't complain about the raw sound in the least. Soloing my recordings of each channel shows that the sound is very detailed. Drum recording is fantastic. I've captured a whole kit through this mixer on 4 mics: beta 52 kick, 57 snare, and two Blue Encore300's. It sounds fantastic. I've also recorded guitar through it, straight off the pedal board, no amp. Once again the sound is strong and detailed. I tried boosting the midrange by about 5 or 6 db and the guitar just jumped out of the speakers. Used little to no EQ in the mix after that. Summing: Unbelievable when used as a summing mixer. I'd put this against Dangerous Audio any day. The unit has I.N.S.A.N.E. dynamic range. So you can feed it a healthy signal from your DAW, make everything louder than everything else so to speak. You can't get digital zero any louder than digital zero. But when I compare the 1202 summed mix to my in-the-box Protools mix, I can clearly hear that transients are way punchier, the midrange is noticeably less cluttered, the top end is far more open. Plus it's 16 inputs on mix down, 12 with EQ. Signal Flow: One feature I really like is the ALT/Mute function. Muting a channel actually takes the signal out of the mix bus and spits it out an alternate output. Which can be used to run it through, say, a different EQ or compressor, maybe a Golden Age Pre73 or a different sonic character to anything running muted. If you have more rack gear, this can be very effective. EQ: the EQ section doesn't have a lot of character on it's own. Boosting makes the source sound bigger, as if that's the sound you were going for in the mix, but at moderate levels you couldn't tell EQ was being used. Kinda like a transformer: hiding in plain site. I haven't used it much yet for single sources, but for that I would rather use plugins anyway. It's built like a tank. The unit is heavy. Knobs feel sturdy, and they're designed to keep dust out of the pots. This is so much more than a mixer. It's a multi-function piece that would provide any ITB-based studio a major increase in recording quality. You get a quad microphone channel channel strip, summing mixer and live mixer for a fraction of the cost you would pay for boutique products. I still want gear from Neve, Tonelux and API etc, but until then, this unit does incredible things for $300. GET IT

5 stars

Clean, low noise, great mic preamps, serviceable EQ, good build quality, what's not to love? I've been through a few compact mixers but the 1202 VLZ4 is by far my favorite. In fact, I have two! I can't think of a better price to performance mixer on the market. I don't need the extra features of the 1604 (I sold it) so two of the smaller 1202 is exactly right for me, and cheaper. I make up the difference in my DAW with EQ, sends, and whatnot. This is the goldilocks of mixers for me, just ticks all the right boxes. It's hard to find something just the right size, features, and price. I use a lot of other high end gear and this fits right in.

Awesome Board

I have been using these boards in my company for over a decade and they've done nothing but improve over the years. Love the great tech and sales support from Mike Soper, the price and the split payment option, it really helps me stay on top of things. After years of buying from other companies we are a 100% Sweetwater loyal customer and suggest them to every band talent and DJ we know.
