This is a component of vibrato systems that operate via springs inside a cavity carved into the guitar body, such as Stratocaster, or locking tremolo systems. In these systems, the vibrato claw is a bracket that is screwed into the neck end of the body cavity for attaching the vibrato springs to the vibrato block.
