Universal Audio, a manufacturer of high-quality vintage audio hardware and DSP software plug-ins for digital audio workstations, today announced the web release of v4.6 software for the UAD Family of DSP Cards and Powered Plug-Ins. Version 4.6 includes a 14-day fully functional demo of the new Helios Type 69 Equalizer. For five days only post-launch, the new plug-in will also be part of the company’s 20% Off Plug-in Sale. Vintage Helios Consoles from the UK were used to mix many ’70s classic albums from Hendrix to Zeppelin and even today, the distinct Type 69 Equalizer is the “secret weapon” of many audio professionals.
Steinberg has announced updates for its current VSTi range that will offer compatibility with Intel-based Macintosh computers. The VST instruments to be updated include HALion, HALion Player, HALion Player OEM, The Grand 2, HALion Symphonic Orchestra, HALion String Edition 2, Hypersonic 2, Virtual Bassist, and Virtual Guitarist 2. The updates to HALion and products based on HALion technology such as HALion Player, HALion Symphonic Orchestra, and The Grand 2 will also include a range of product enhancements such as support for Windows Vista (32-bit). The HALion update also extends the supported import formats to include both GIGA 3 and Kontakt 2.
Celemony has announced the release of Version 1.8 of the single-track edition of Melodyne, Melodyne uno. Version 1.8 offers new playback algorithms as well as a number of bug fixes and performance improvements. The most important improvement offered by uno 1.8 is the new “Percussive2” algorithm for the editing of percussive material. In terms of sound quality, when applied to drum loops and similar material, the results delivered by this algorithm are said to be considerably better than those of its predecessor. Among the other new features of Melodyne uno 1.8 are combined scroll/zoom bars, an alternative grey color scheme for the user interface, various improvements in the display and handling of percussive material, and a more user-friendly implementation of the copy protection. The update to Melodyne uno 1.8 is free of charge to all registered users.
