- Steinberg has announced a brand new version of its award-winning Nuendo audio production environment. With a plethora of new features and technologies sure to please mixers, engineers, and editors in post-production, studio recording, and live recording. Nuendo 4 is compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista, and both Intel and PPC-based Macintosh computers running Mac OS X 10.4. Among the new functionality in Nuendo 4 is a state-of-the-art automation system that Steinberg says is on par with the world’s best. Then there’s Preview mode, Fill commands, Punch Logs, Virgin Territories, and the unique new Touch Collect Assistant – we’re not sure exactly what all those are yet, but we’ll fill you in as we learn more. But it’s just some of the new functions that unite the best functionality found on traditional hardware mixing consoles with the flexibility inherent in Nuendo 4 as a modern DAW environment.
- Yamaha Corporation of America has announced new driver, editor, and firmware updates, making lots of the company’s products fully compatible with Intel-based Macs (otherwise known as Universal Binary) and the new Windows Vista operating system. Among the updates are version 1.1.0 of Yamaha’s Vocal Rack, Pitch Fix, Final Master, and 01X Channel Module VST plug-ins for Mac OS X. These updaters make current Yamaha VST effects Universal Binary-compatible. They require Mac OS X version 10.4 or later and Cubase 4, Cubase Studio 4, or Cubase AI4.
Yamaha also released AI Driver V1.1.0 for Mac OS X for the MOTIF XS8/mLAN16E2 and the new n12 and n8 FireWire Mixers. New firmware is also available for these products and required when running under Mac OS X.
Finally, Yamaha has released version 2.2.0 Multi Part Editors/Voice Editors for the MOTIF ES, MOTIF-RACK ES/MO6/MO8, and S90ES. These new updates deliver Mac-Intel (Universal Binary) and Windows Vista compatibility.
