The frequency band in a filter that is between the passband and the stopband. This would include all frequencies that are attenuated by more than 3 dB, but less than the total attenuation desired from the filter. In a filter that is to attenuate 40 dB, the transition band would include all frequencies that are attenuated by the filter by at least 3 dB and less than 40 dB.
