First came Jaguar. Then Panther. And today’s “cat du jour” is, of course, Tiger. We’re talking about Apple’s latest OS X release, which carries the code name “Tiger.” And now there’s Tiger 10.4.3, the beefiest OS X update ever! The biggest changes are in Core Audio, so this may well be an update you’ll probably want to consider. OS 10.4.3 also addresses some security issues, which appear to be a source of problems with certain plug-ins, particularly in Cubase. The Safari Web browser is the only browser available that’s fully W3C compliant for CSS and there are a bunch of fixes in Spotlight, syncing, mail, networking, and iChat. But here’s the one everybody has been waiting for: Apple’s Disk Utility can finally verify the Mac OS X 10.4 startup volume. The downside? Apple warns that Quartz 2D Extreme acceleration is still unsupported.
