Thunderbolt

Thunderbolt, more technically known as IEEE 802.1, is a networking protocol co-developed by Intel and Apple and found on all currently shipping Macs, as well as some third-party PCIe cards for PCs. Thunderbolt uses the same connector as the mini DisplayPort and combines both PCIe and DisplayPort signals into one serial signal. Thunderbolt 2 (found on the latest Macs) can support speeds up to 20 Gbp/s and cable lengths of up to 100 meters using optical cable.
