Take Your FOH to the Next Level: The Yamaha DM7 Series Mixer

Take Your FOH to the Next Level: The Yamaha DM7 Series Mixer

Redefining Digital Mixing

Yamaha DM7 Series redefines digital mixing, meeting the ever-evolving needs of audio professionals with a perfect blend of innovation and usability. Designed for those upgrading from Yamaha’s CL or QL consoles or switching or upgrading from other mid-sized desks, DM7 offers an intuitive, seamless transition. Balancing professional-grade performance with a compact design and accessible price point, DM7 Series is tailored for medium-sized venues and productions, making it a versatile solution for diverse audio needs.

DM7 Design Vision

Representing more than just a mixing console, Yamaha DM7 Series is a step forward in design and functionality. Built on decades of trusted engineering and sonic excellence, DM7 merges familiarity with innovation, offering tools that address modern audio production challenges. The vision driving DM7 was clear: to create a future-ready platform that embraces existing users, encouraging exploration of new creative possibilities while ensuring an easy and welcoming transition.

Transitioning to DM7 Series

Engineered to ensure seamless transitions for long-time Yamaha users, Yamaha DM7 Series is also inviting for other users of popular workflows. Its interface feels instantly familiar, yet it introduces advanced functionalities, including enhanced processing power, extended channel counts, and innovative control options. Audio engineers upgrading from CL or QL Series and other mid-sized desks will appreciate the intuitive layout’s familiarity while discovering powerful new enhancements like advanced onboard plug-ins, dual touchscreens, and split-mode operation.

Cost-Effective Integration with Existing Infrastructure Saves Time and Money

One of the DM7 Series’ most appealing aspects is its ability to not only integrate with existing infrastructure, but to actually improve the performance of last-gen systems without requiring costly I/O upgrades. For instance, DM7 is compatible with all generations of Yamaha R Series I/O racks. By simply swapping out their 48 kHz CL or QL Series console for DM7, Yamaha console users gain 96 kHz functionality out of the Yamaha I/O racks they already own, unlocking superior audio performance, reduced latency, and increased channel counts with a relatively inexpensive control surface upgrade. In short, DM7 offers the ability to upgrade a rig that’s more than a decade old without changing I/O, which frees up tens of thousands of dollars that can be applied to other pressing needs.

Innovative Features That Elevate Your Workflow

Streamlined Livestreams: The broadcast software package and split-mode operation effortlessly mixes FOH and livestreams from the same surface.

Expanded Processing Power: DM7 offers significantly more processing, providing freedom for reverb, plug-ins, and automixing. DM7 users get Rivage plugins like DaNSe, Dynamic EQ4, Analog Delay and more, and Dugan automixing is now allotted dedicated processing so inserts can be positioned post-fader.

Premium Plug-Ins: Access exclusive plug-ins like DaNsE and Rupert Neve processing, or integrate third-party VSTs seamlessly, including Waves and Universal Audio.

Enhanced Usability: Dual 7-inch multi-touch screens provide added flexibility and efficiency.

Show file conversion and rack mount: For CL/QL Series users, even existing show files can easily be converted and imported. Best of all, DM7 Compact is rackmountable.

The DM7 Series delivers exceptional sound quality and cutting-edge features that audio professionals demand. Call Your Sweetwater Sales Engineer today!

“[DM7] has allowed us to maintain the highest possible standard in the smallest possible footprint.”

Cliff Skinner
Monitor Engineer, Twenty One Pilots

The optional Yamaha CTL-DM7 Control Expansion upgrade, with its programmable jog wheels and two assignable faders, offers dedicated monitor and scene control – including immersive functionality and surround.

“Over the course of six shows spanning three months, I’ve had extensive hands-on experience with Yamaha’s new DM7 console, specifically the DM7-EX with the broadcast and theater package. Transitioning from the CL and QL series, I found the DM7’s interface refreshingly familiar yet significantly more powerful. Its 120 channels, 144 Dante streams, and 48 mix busses provided unparalleled flexibility for corporate events, keynotes, and entertainment gigs. The console’s advanced features, like dual touchscreens, premium rack plug-ins, and integrated Dugan automixing, are game-changers at this price point. Firmware updates have addressed initial hiccups, and the console’s intuitive design ensures a seamless workflow. From its reliability to its ability to handle complex setups, the DM7 has become my go-to desk, offering a significant upgrade in performance without the steep learning curve. If you’re accustomed to the CL or QL series, transitioning to the DM7 will feel like second nature while unlocking a new level of functionality and sonic excellence.”

KENNY SELLERS & CLIFF SKINNER: NAVIGATING TWENTY ONE PILOTS

Front of House and Monitor Engineers transition seamlessly from arena to mid-size venue

In May 2024, global superstars Twenty One Pilots embarked on five secret club dates in New York, Berlin, London, Mexico City, and Columbus, Ohio, building anticipation for their upcoming Clancy album and worldwide arena tour. For FOH engineer Kenny Sellars and monitor engineer Cliff Skinner, the challenge was adapting the band’s arena-level audio system to intimate venues without sacrificing quality. “The band cares about being perfect—it doesn’t matter where we are,” says Kenny. The task was daunting: fit arena-level performance into small clubs. “We needed a compact yet cost-effective package, and the DM7-EX delivered.”

Kenny initially had reservations. “To be honest, I was a little hesitant.” Sound engineers don’t always like change! His worries quickly faded. “It’s only got a few fewer faders than a Rivage PM control surface. My layout’s almost exactly the same, and it programs just like the Rivage PM system. It felt just like home.”

The familiarity of Yamaha’s ecosystem made the transition seamless. “The DM7-EX has everything I need. It’s the perfect solution to keep me comfortable in the Yamaha world and fit the bill for these club shows,” Kenny explains. Cliff agrees, “The console has allowed us to maintain the highest possible standard in the smallest possible footprint.”

Yamaha DM7 Series is a transformative solution combining familiar workflows with cutting-edge features. It empowers sound engineers across diverse environments to innovate without compromise. Offering unmatched reliability, flexibility, and ease of upgrading, the DM7 Series eliminates barriers while amplifying the craft.
