While Paul McCartney’s “Yesterday” is the most recorded song on the planet, Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” must also rank pretty high, right? Well, now you can go to WFMU’s Beware of the Blog Web site and hear 101 (and counting) versions of this classic. Be sure to set aside an entire evening, because you won’t want to miss a single twisted adaptation, among which are our favorites, the Gilligan’s Island, Australian Dance Hall, and SCTV versions. There’s even one Dutch guy who learned to play the song backwards. Honestly, this is more mindblowing fun than is actually legal in seven states. Credit goes out to former FMU DJ KBC, who began collecting these oddities, though the site includes a ton of additional takes from artists as diverse as Pat Boone, Mary Schneider (the Yodeling Queen of Australia), and even the London Symphony Orchestra, none of whom were laughing (well, except the two piccolo players).
