A particular type of audio cable construction favored by some engineers because of its ability to cancel certain types of EMI typically picked up by cables. Star Quad cable is characterized by the use of four conducting wires – two for the positive voltage and two for the negative – twisted together inside of a shield. The way the four wires are twisted together in a spiral helps to eliminate the propagation of interference in much the same way as it does in any twisted pair cable. Having four conductors, as opposed to just two, twisted together can also provide improved performance due to the minimization of the “loop area” that exists between twists of conductors in all cable.
