(1) The person who creates special sound effects for film; originally, the person assigned responsibility for the overall sound of the film, and who supervises the sound editing and re-recording.
(2) A popular Mac-based digital audio editing program created by Digidesign. The Sound Designer program was discontinued by Digidesign in the late 1990’s as much of its functionality had been incorporated into Pro Tools.
(3) A file format (SDII) created by Digidesign for use with their various Mac-based audio recording/editing/processing programs.
