Equally at home recording in the field or as a tricorder at a Star Trek convention, the PCM-D1 looks to be one excellent product. The unit features 24/96 suppport, built-in microphones in X-Y configuration with 30kHz response, WAV file formats, solid-state storage to 4GB internal memory and removable Memory Stick Pro high-speed storage, and a USB 2.0 port for transfers to computer. Nice touches include analog VU meters and an LCD display. Power is via four AA batteries (included). We heard an acoustic guitar recorded with the PCM-D1, and we were very impressed.
