Sideman Clause

A condition in a recording contract between an artist and recording label that allows the artists to continue to do some studio work on the side. Most Sideman Clauses allow for the Label to maintain some control over when this side work happens, and how the artist’s name appears (or doesn’t appear) in the credits, however without this clause in the contract it’s more than likely the artist would not be able to perform for other bands/labels under the terms of a typical exclusive contract.
