This is a traditional African instrument in which iron tongues are placed side-by-side on a wooden base and plucked with the two thumbs. Different regions have designs that vary in size and scale, but all are based upon the same basic principle. Commercial versions are marketed under the name Kalimba, and that has stuck, despite being incorrect.
