Often simply called “GS” this is Roland’s extension to the General MIDI standard. The GS standard added 98 tone instruments, 15 percussion instruments, eight drum kits, and three effects to the General MIDI standard, all of which could be controlled via Non-Registered Parameter Numbers (NRPNs). The GS standard is widely supported by music software, but no hardware manufacturers besides Roland have adopted it.
