The brand-new (and rather cool-looking) Rode Blimp is a complete windshield and shockmounting solution that’s specifically designed to accommodate the Rode NTG-1, NTG-2, and NTG-3 shotgun microphones in addition to the NT4 stereo microphone and most third-party shotgun microphones up to 325mm (or a bit over 12 inches) in length. The Blimp’s main housing is based on a 10 frequency geodesic dome design, with a triangular cross-section that allows it to be injection-molded in one piece. This geometry creates an open-area ratio that greatly improves the acoustic transparency over existing solutions, yet with an unparalleled level of robustness and physical protection for the microphone. The end-domes can be easily removed by simply twisting off, allowing easy access to the microphone. An oversized thread allows easy re-attachment of the domes, avoiding clip systems that are difficult to use and ultimately vulnerable to breaking. An ergonomic pistol grip handle features a quick release arm for fast and easy adjustment of the Blimp while in the field. All you video camera users out there will love this!
