DIGICheck, RME’s unique tool for digital-audio analysis, reaches Version 5 and is now ready for downloading. (Note that Version 4.53 is still available as the DIGI 32, and the DIGI 96 series cards are no longer supported because of technical limitations.) DIGICheck 5.0 is based on a completely rewritten ASIO audio engine, supporting both single-channel selection and simultaneous usage of multiple cards in all functions. For example, it’s now possible to record up to 192 channels at the same time, using Global Record via three MADI cards. It’s also possible to display the phase relations from any of the channels – even from different cards. These changes are found throughout the program. All displays are fully configurable, including their channel selections. The Multichannel Level Meter is no longer fixed to operate with eight channels, but it can show any number of channels between two and eight.
- The integrated recording program Global Record has been reworked and improved. Reliability and performance of playback and recording have been greatly enhanced. Additionally, Global Record now shows error lists with information on problems with ASIO and hard drive buffers, including time stamps, should they ever occur.
- Also completely new is the freely scalable Surround Audio Scope, a 6-channel surround display with multi-correlation meters and combined Peak/RMS level meters. The time constants for the dynamic calculation of these values is adjustable. The scaling of the figure can be changed between linear and compressed. Easier read-out is achieved by using an adjustable reference level displayed as an additional circle. All display channels can be assigned to any audio channel, adjusting the meter to any routing. Note: the LFE channel (Low Frequency Effects) has no directional effect and is therefore not displayed as part of the figure. Instead, it is displayed as a separate circle with identical scaling but different color.
DIGICheck 5.0 is fully compatible with Windows Vista, including support for MMCSS. As usual, the program includes detailed online help, describing and explaining all functions.
