Reverse Breakdown Voltage

The amount of reverse bias that will cause a p-n junction (diode) to break down and conduct in the reverse direction. Do not be confused into thinking that this “breakdown” means that the diode has been damaged. It simply refers to the voltage required to overcome the natural tendency of a p-n juntion to not conduct in a reverse direction.
