Removable Hard Drive

A hard drive in which the actual platter is mounted into a removable cartridge. The drive mechanism and electronics are mounted into another unit, into which the cartridge is inserted. The advantage is that multiple cartridges can be used for different storage purposes, and the amount of storage can be expanded with additional cartridges. The disadvantage is that removable drives typically aren’t quite as fast as fixed hard drives.
