A popular standard for streaming audio over the Web. Similar in some ways to other compressed or data reduced formats like MP3, RealAudio was developed by RealNetworks and supports FM-stereo-quality sound that can be played back in real time through most popular Web browsers using the RealAudio plug-in (decoder). RealAudio has a video counterpart known as RealVideo, and between the two they currently represent the dominant format for real time viewing and listening of things like radio and television broadcasts over the Internet.
