Abbreviation for Radio Corporation of America. RCA was formed in 1919 out of parts of several major companies to coordinate radio development and production during WW-I, and has historically been one of the worlds largest makers of radio and television equipment. The phono plug was so associated with RCA in the beginning (see WFTD Phono Plug) that it actually became known as the RCA plug. Today the majority of people refer to it as an RCA connector, even though that isn’t the technically correct name.
