Here’s another handy tool in any guitar player’s arsenal of techniques. It’s the reverse of a hammer-on. What you do is pick a note, then lift the finger on your fretting hand quickly to let the string vibration sound a lower note. This can be a half-step, whole-step or any interval that’s within your range of dexterity. Rock on (tastefully, of course)!
