The newest FirePod firmware and drivers have added some cool new features, specifically the ability to use multiple Firepds on a PC (Windows XP). Some facts:
- Up to three FirePods can be used simultaneously on Mac and PC. PC users should be sure to download and install this latest firmware and drivers. Multiple interface support on Mac requires OS 10.4 “Tiger” (10.4.2 recommended) which adds “Aggregate Device” support.
- The maximum number of inputs and outputs on the PC is 26 (24 analog and stereo S/PDIF)
- The maximum number of inputs and outputs on the Mac is 24 analog
- The highest sample rate you can use with multiple Firepods is 48kHz. (You can still use up to 96kHz for 10 inputs/outputs with a single Firepod connected).
- The new driver supports Gigastudio on PC. This has it’s own installer that’s available on the website.
- The new firmware allows the Firepod to be used as a standalone 8-channel analog mic preamp (i.e., When there is no computer connected, mic preamps 1-8 are routed to their respective line outputs)
