Pop Filter Placement

Q: I have a singer working in my studio who insists on “eating” the mic. He gets so close that I have a hard time getting a good sound and the popping is out of control. I ask him to step back, but he moves right back on the mic again. (I don’t think on purpose, he’s just used to singing that way.) Any suggestions?

A: Set up a pop filter the distance away from the mic that you want the singer to be. Set the filter on its own sturdy stand if necessary. Have the singer put his nose on the pop filter…hopefully that will keep him in place! Plus, it should help with the plosive problems you’ve been having.
