Plesiochronous

This term refers to systems which are running in a state where the parts are in close synchronization, but which are not actually locked together or perfectly synchronous. Such systems tend to behave very much like synchronous systems, with the exception that they must have some means of coping with “sync slips,” which will happen at various intervals.
