Phase Shift

Also called “phase offset,” phase shift is a shift from zero phase that occurs in the phase of a wave. When the phase shifted signal is combined with the same wave in zero phase, the typical “phase shifted,” modulated sound occurs. Phase shift can be a sought after result of using phase shifter effects or it can be the unintentional result of microphone placement or other equipment issues.
