Path

Literally, the route from one location to another. In signal flow terms, we have “signal path,” which describes how audio or other signal is routed from its source to its final destination – what processors it goes through, and so on. In computer terms, “path” describes the location of a file within a nested series of directories and folders, with the steps in the path separated by slashes. So,

Macintosh HD/Documentation/Tutorial.pdf

describes the location of a PDF file titled “Tutorial.pdf,” which is found on the hard drive named “Macintosh HD,” inside the “Documentation” folder. (This is a very simple example; file paths can become quite long if many folders are nested inside one another.)
