The Fender Precision bass (often called the P-Bass), introduced in 1951, was the first electric bass to become popular. To this day it is one of the best-selling bass guitars. It is a solid body instrument with a 20-fret maple neck with a maple or rosewood fingerboard. The hardware and options vary with the specific variant, but the most common configuration is one split-coil humbucking pickup. P-Bass users who have had a signature model at one time or another include Steve Harris, Mike Dirnt, Tony Franklin, Duff McKagan, Matt Freeman, Sting, Dee Dee Ramon, Roger Waters, and more.
