“Noise reduction” is a catch-all term for the process of reducing or removing unwanted noise from an audio signal. Many different devices may incorporate noise reduction in their design, or include noise reduction features. A noise gate, for example, can be a standalone device, or a feature in another device. Humbucking pickups are designed to reduce noise compared to single coils. Other examples include software and plug-ins that can reduce different types of noise, and so on.
