Following the success of their KORE hardware/software package, Native Instruments looks like it will have another winner on its hands with a compact, high-performance USB 2.0 interface they’re calling Audio Kontrol 1. With a 2-in/4-out configuration, a built-in microphone preamp combined with a hi-Z instrument input, and a headphone amp, the Audio Kontrol 1 also comes equipped with studio-grade 24-bit/192kHz Cirrus Logic convertors for pristine audio quality.
NI’s third generation USB 2.0 driver technology delivers on the promise of ultra-low latency on both Mac and Windows systems in the range of four milliseconds. Four freely assignable control elements on the top side of this handsome unit make it possible to adjust any software parameter directly from the interface. Bundled software includes three “soft synths” that are based on NI’s acclaimed PRO-53, B4, and FM7, along with three amp emulations from the company’s award-winning Guitar Rig. You also get an LE version of NI’s feature-laden Traktor 3 DJ software. Availability is said to be October.
