In a mixer, this describes the signal path that the audio signal runs through in order to be heard through connect speakers or headphones. Usually, the monitor path begins with the output of the audio from the recording device or audio interface, and ends at the speakers or headphones. In multitrack recorders, different signals may have different monitor paths as they are routed to various outboard processors, headphone distribution systems, and so on.
