Lug

A piece of metal hardware that attaches to the drum shell. A lug serves as an anchor or bracket that holds one end of a tension rod (the other end of the tension rod connects to and holds the hoop, and provides the means for the drumhead to be tuned). Various manufacturers use different designs for their lugs, each intended to minimize the impact of the lug on the resonance of the shell.
