I’ve Lost My Plug-ins!

Pro Tools 8 is loaded with amazing features that streamline the process so that you can focus on making music. One such workflow accelerator lets you move plug-ins that are no longer authorized on your system to the Unused Plug-ins folder. But if you’re running a session without an iLok key installed for whatever reason, then the same message will come up. It’s easy to accidentally send plug-ins with iLok licenses to the Unused Plug-in folder, but it’s not always so evident where this folder resides. If you do accidentally zap your iLok-authorized plug-ins to Never-Never Land, then here’s how to find them:

On Windows Systems:
C:ProgramFilesCommonFilesDigidesignDAEPlug-Ins(Unused)Plug-Ins(Unlicensed)

On Mac OS X Systems:
MacintoshHD/Library/ApplicationSupport/Digidesign/Plug-ins(Unused)

This is also where plug-ins go if you use the Pro Tools Utility‘s “Remove Plug-in and Toolkit Warnings” function to remove plug-ins that don’t have iLok authorizations.
