It seems like the gang at Line 6 has an unbelievable knack for not only outdoing the competition, but also outdoing themselves. This can only be good for the rest of us. How do you top the success of the original POD? Simple, add more amplifier models, throw in some classic effects models. Now this is a philosophy I can get behind. But, they didn’t stop there.
Now you can use your PODXT as a recording interface to your computer, and as a gateway to the GuitarPort web content. With GuitarPort you can actually play along with the music of some of your favorite players as you learn the song. Example, Line 6 actually dug up some old Hendrix recordings, removed the guitar part, and now you can play along with the original recording minus guitar! Import and play along with some of your favorite WAV and MP3 files, you can even slow them down to half speed without altering the pitch. There are lessons, articles, artist bios, and guitar forums. Line 6 has even included a recording application called RiffTracker, which is optimized for the guitarist.
Line 6 has created an editor/librarian application called Line 6 Edit. Edit allows you to customize PODXT tones on the computer and save them into the POD. When you are done you can go online at customtone.com and share your creations with other guitarists. There are hundreds of user presets posted and Line 6 staff is adding new tones all the time.
Finally, it should be mentioned, this thing sounds amazing. Here you have a catalog of classic and original guitar amp and effects tones, at a fraction of the cost of just one classic amplifier. From the beginner to midlevel player it has serious “Wow!” factor when compared to an off-brand combo amp. And if you are playing live, you can throw your guitar over your shoulder and the PODXT under your arm and head to your next gig.
