Laptops and Pro Tools Windows Configurations

There are several ways to recall Windows Configurations in Pro Tools. Windows Configurations are a new feature in PT 7.3, which store which windows are open and their positions so you can quickly jump around the different windows of the program (these are known as “screensets” in some other applications).

You can recall Windows Configurations using the Window menu at the top of the Pro Tools screen, by opening the floating Windows Configurations List window, or by using key commands – on the numeric keypad (not the number keys at the top of the QWERTY keyboard) type a period, followed by the number of the configuration you want, followed by an asterisk.

The last method is a problem, however, if you’re on a laptop without a separate numeric keypad, such as the Apple MacBook. Fortunately, there are workarounds. Here’s one: Some laptops (including the MacBook) feature an “embedded” numeric keypad that lives in the QWERTY keyboard and is accessed when you hold the Function key while typing. For example, on the MacBook, to type “.” “1” “*” you would hold the function key, then type “.” “j” “p” to select the first Window Configuration.

The “Embedded” numeric keypad symbols are printed on the lower right corner of the appropriate QWERTY keys so you can easily find them.
