Short for “keyboard amplifier.” An amplifier optimized for reproducing and amplifying keyboard signals. Most keyboard amps are combos. Typical features of keyboard amplifiers include:
- low- and mid-frequency drivers, such as one or more 10″ or 15″ speakers
- a high-frequency driver
- a preamp section (usually solid state) with one or more EQ bands and gain control
- a power amp section (usually solid state)
Optionally, a keyboard amplifier may feature one or more effects loops, two or more inputs/channels allowing for independent EQ and volume settings for multiple keyboards, onboard effects, a DI output, and more.
