Hornpipe

There are actually three definitions for this word in the music world. In instrumental terms, the word refers to a small wind instrument of the 15th century: a pipe of elder or bone with up to six holes and thus a compass of no more than an octave. As a style of music, the hornpipe is a British dance, much like a jig, but usually in 3/2, 2/4, or 4/4 time. Finally, the word refers to a specific type of embellishment that is used by bagpipe players
