Many guitars referred to as “hollowbody” are actually semi-hollow, with a solid center block to add sustain and to counter feedback. An example of this would be a Gibson ES-335. Semi-hollowbody guitars were adopted early on by blues musicians such as B.B, King and have remained popular in blues, jazz, and rock music, where the thick, warm tones produced by the instrument’s hollow wings lend themselves well to expressive playing.
