A high-fidelity signal is one that is transmitted with full range and very low distortion. Ideally, high-fidelity audio equipment (often abbreviated as “hi-fi,” though that abbreviation carries “consumer” connotations rather than “pro audio” connotations) will offer extremely low noise, low distortion, and a flat (neutral) frequency response for the signal’s frequency range.
