Orville Gibson founded the company in 1902 as the Gibson Mandolin-Guitar Mfg. Co., Ltd. in Kalamazoo, Michigan, but it is now based in Nashville, TN. The company has diversified as Gibson Brands, Inc. into nearly every aspect of musical instrument and music technology, under many subsidiary brands: Gibson Custom, Gibson Memphis, Gibson, Baldwin Piano, Cakewalk, Cerwin-Vega, Epiphone, Kramer, KRK, Oberheim, Opcode, Echoplex, Onkyo, Steinberger, TASCAM, and others.
