Flux (Solder)

A corrosive chemical used to improve soldered or welded joints. In electronics, tiny ribbons of flux are embedded within the solder. As the solder is melted, the flux is released and cleans the metals being soldered together, allowing for a more solid connection. (This is why solder should be applied to the joint of the components being soldered, rather than to the soldering iron.)
