This is an alternate term for a “plectrum” (often shortened to just “pick“), which is a thin flat object that guitarists (and other stringed instrument players, such as mandolin players, bass players, and others) use to pluck an individual string or strum a chord across multiple strings. The playing style known as flat-picking is so named because of the common use of the term “flat pick.”
