There has been some concern over FireWire and Macintoshes lately. It’s true that new Macbooks no longer have FireWire ports (except for the current least-expensive model).
It is also true that new Mac models no longer have FireWire 400 ports. However, this is not a problem as Mac Minis, Mac Pros, Macbook Pros, and iMacs have FireWire 800 ports. A simple adapter or adapter cable is all that is required to use FireWire 400 devices with FireWire 800 ports.
One caveat: If you connect a FireWire 400 device to a FireWire 800 chain, be sure to put the FireWire 400 devices at the END of the chain. Otherwise, your FireWire 800 devices will suffer reduced performance.
