While TASCAM has announced that its all new 48-channel digital console, the DM-3200, is shipping, the big news comes in the form of the optional IF-FW/DM 24-channel FireWire interface card, which should be shipping soon. The card essentially turns the DM-3200 into a powerful, fully integrated computer interface, control surface, and mixing console.
The feature list for the DM-3200 is impressive, and includes 48 digital channels at resolutions up to 24-bit/96kHz. There are 32 channel inputs and 16 return inputs, with 4-band, full parametric EQ and dynamics on each of the 32 channel inputs. Effects? There are two stereo effects available from 44.1kHz all the way out to 96kHz.
You also get 16 rotary encoders with LED indicators that display mixer settings at-a-glance along with 17 touch-sensitive 100mm motorized faders and driverless USB connectivity for data storage or backup. When you’re ready to move up to 6.1 surround sound, the optional IF-SM/DM Surround Monitoring interface card adds multichannel monitor, bass management, and downmix capabilities.
